This business has taught me a little bit of everything. How to manage all aspects of being a business owner, patience, setting boundaries, the importance of me time and so much more. But the biggest lesson, and the one that has carried me through, is gratefulness.
This year, I am thankful for so many things but the first one has to be family. For those of you that don't know my story - I have a family of four, with one in Heaven. My story is the epitome of "tragedy to triumph". In 2016 when I went into labor with my daughter Blakely at 39 weeks, I was given the devastating news that there was no heartbeat. I delivered her stillborn.
During this time I was overwhelmed with emotions and searching for purpose in life with a way to cope. I've always had a niche for beauty. I believe in the feel good, look good, do good phenomena; so I handmade natural skin friendly skin care products for a therapeutic hobby.
My husband Avery has been with me every step of the way, and I could not do life without him. Many on you have seen him in the store hanging artwork for me, building shelves, and doing all the handyman things! He has been my love of 11 years and married for 7.
He's a sweet man of few words with a rough biker boy swag! Having him by my side through even the darkest of times has been a true testament to in sickness & in health, for better or for worse. I love this man dearly as we have endured so much love, loss, pain and joy together.
Then there's Eli. He is my precious 4 year old with an old soul. He is kind and smart, while still rambunctious and full of life! He definitely keeps Avery and I on our toes. He is also super assertive and lets us know REAL QUICK who the boss is haha! I guess he comes by it honest ;)
2020 taught me to be grateful for my health and safety. Life is so precious and in light of recent crises even within my own city, I am reminded to be grateful for the health and wellness of those around me. I have been heavy on the "I love you" and "be safe" messages as of late.
With my nursing background I have experience working with pediatrics, holistic and alternative medicine, tele-health, case management, hospice and cardiac. My passion for making others feel good and live healthier lives brings sol to my life. I encourage you to make self care a priority; when you fill up your cup, you can pour into others.
This year I was able to leave my full time job and be fully present with my Blakely Bath & Co. business. I am thankful for the flexibility of being able to turn my hobby into a career. From making products in my home office to opening a storefront in 2022, this has been a dream come true!
I am thankful that this year I was able to open my brick & mortar, as it allows me to be closer to my loyal customers and be a part of the small business community here in Lynchburg. Which leads me to my biggest thanks - YOU.
From the Facebook group to my grand opening, my customers have continued to blow me away with your loyalty, kind words, and continued support! I've said it once and I'll say it again - Blakely Babes are the best.
